Practice of the GSS&EMD Department

The department fully organizes and ensures industrial internships in production settings in accordance with the State Educational Standard and the curriculum. For students enrolled in the educational programs 6B07202 – "Geology and Exploration of Mineral Deposits" and 6B05203 – "Applied Geology", the department arranges three types of internships: field geological training after the 1st year (at the Maly Karatau educational training ground), and industrial internships after the 2nd and 3rd years.

Field Geological Internship:

This internship is held in regular mode at the Maly Karatau training ground. It includes 12 field routes and 1 day for office work (cameral day), where students prepare and submit reports. During the internship, students acquire skills in orientation in the field, determining bedding elements of rocks, describing outcrops, identifying rock types, and recognizing fold types and elements. Additionally, students learn to set up tents and organize living conditions in the field while developing communication skills.

Professional Internships:

To develop practical competencies, the curriculum provides both educational and industrial internships. The institute cooperates with more than 60 geological organizations. Industrial internships are conducted in companies with signed cooperation agreements, such as:

The department also collaborates with the Association of Geological Production Organizations (APGO). In cooperation with industry representatives, it participated in the development of Professional Standards within the framework of the National Qualification System of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the fields of geology, geophysics, hydrogeology, and engineering geology.
