Information Security Research Laboratory
The Information Security Research Laboratory operates within the structure of the Department of Cybersecurity, Information Processing and Storage and acts as a specialized center for applied research and technological development in the field of information security. The laboratory was established in January 2020 on the initiative of Ibraev Renat Bulatovich.
R.B. Ibraev is a graduate of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, National Technical University of Ukraine, with a degree in Cryptological Support of Information and Telecommunication Systems (Bachelor's degree, 2007-2011), and holds a Master's degree in Military Science and Security (Information Security Systems, KazNTU named after K.I. Satpayev, 2018-2020), completed his doctoral studies in the specialty "Information security systems" (KazNTU named after K.I. Satpayeva, 2021-2024, is preparing to defend her dissertation, scheduled for autumn 2025).
Since its foundation, the Laboratory has demonstrated high scientific and design effectiveness, despite its limited staffing and resources.
The main activity is the development and research of modern cryptographic mechanisms, data protection tools and secure information and telecommunication systems. One of the key achievements of the team was its participation in the development of the draft national standard of the Republic of Kazakhstan for symmetric block encryption based on an improved version of the Qalqan cryptographic algorithm. This standard is at the final stage of approval, which confirms its importance for the formation of a national cryptographic protection system.
The scientific Group implements initiative projects to create a secure machine storage medium and an IP channel encoder based on single-board mini-PCs.
The laboratory is integrated into the educational process of the university: students' industrial practice is being managed, promising students are being involved in research activities, and initiatives are being implemented to create specialized circles and educational modules focused on the development and testing of cryptographic protection tools in accordance with industry standards, including СТ РК 1073-2007.
The Information Security Laboratory is a point of concentration of competencies in the field of modern cryptography, data protection technologies and information security, combining scientific research, engineering development and training of highly qualified personnel for the national technology sector.
