NPJSC “Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K. I. Satbayev” is one of the oldest higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, established in 1934 in Almaty. Today, Satbayev University is the country's first technical university, working to become a major technical hub in Central Asia. Satbayev University's mission is "Science and education for the benefit of people."

  • Non-profit joint-stock company “Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satbayev ” (NPJSC “K.I. Satbayev KazNRTU”, Satbayev University).

The history of  Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satbayev - the flagship of engineering education in the republic, is inextricably linked with the history of our state, its culture and the system of higher education.

In the 30s of XX century, for solving the problems of eliminating the technical and economic backwardness of the national economy, there was an urgent need for the development of higher technical education in the country.

On October 20, 1933, by the decree of Council of People's Commissars of the USSR "On personnel training for Kazakhstan", in Alma-Ata, the capital of Kazakhstan, there was organized Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute (KazMMI) with two faculties: mining and non-ferrous metals.

On September 19, 1934, the first bell of the first academic year rang at Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute.

There are several main stages in the formation and development of one of the oldest educational institutions in the Republic of Kazakhstan:

1934-1960 - Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute (KazMMI);

1960-1994 - Kazakh Polytechnic Institute (KazPTI);

Since 1994 - Kazakh National Technical University (KazNTU).

In 1999, KazNTU was named after an outstanding scientist, academician Kanysh Imantayevich Satbayev, by the decree of Republic of Kazakhstan’s Government, for special services in the training of engineering and technical personnel of the country.

July 5, 2001, by the decree of Republic of Kazakhstan’s President N.A.Nazarbayev, University was granted a special status.

In 2014, University was awarded "National Research Technical University" category.

In 2017, University received the name “Satbayev University” along with the full name "NPJSC KazNRTU named after K.I.Satbayev".
