Professional biography
Dr Tariq Umar is a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng, Eur-Ing, MICE) and Senior Lecturer in Construction Project Management at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), UK. He is internationally recognised as a Top 2% Scientist in the World (Stanford University Rankings) and a high-impact ScholarGPS® Top Scientist, reflecting his global influence in construction engineering, sustainability, construction materials, and interdisciplinary research.
Dr Umar holds a PhD in Construction Management from London South Bank University and has published extensively across the built environment disciplines, including construction technology, sustainable energy, engineering sustainability, waste and resource management, and Construction 4.0. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed outputs and regularly contributes as a reviewer and editorial board member for leading journals.
His research achievements, citation impact, and global collaborations position him among the most productive and influential scholars in his field. His work spans technical innovation, sustainable construction materials, civil engineering practice, and the integration of digital technologies into construction processes.
Dr Umar also plays a leading role in capacity building and academic development internationally. He has secured competitive research grants, supervised doctoral students, served as an external examiner across multiple countries, and contributed to major projects on equity, diversity, inclusion, and leadership in higher education.
As a Visiting Professor at Satbayev University, Dr Umar contributes to research development, supervision of young researchers, and strengthening international collaboration in civil engineering, construction, and sustainable built environment systems.
