Potential for Geothermal Energy Production (GGE), Energy Storage (NE), and Carbon Storage and Sequestration (CSS) in Kazakhstan Sedimentary Basins
Project objective: The ultimate goal of this study is to conduct scientific screening and assessment of sedimentary basins in Kazakhstan to determine the potential for the introduction of PGE, NE and NSO for further industrial development.
Relevance: The successful use of PGE, NE and NSO technologies largely depends on geological conditions. A prerequisite for the possible implementation of each of these technologies are laterally long-lasting reservoir rocks, as well as the presence of impermeable tires. Despite the high potential of Kazakhstan's 13 sedimentary basins for the introduction of PGE, NE and NSO, none of these technologies has yet been tested or used. The search and characterization of potential subsurface areas of PGE, NE and NSO are very similar to the search and characterization of oil reservoirs, which will facilitate the easy transfer of best practices and concepts of exploration and development of oil fields.
