AP19178044 Design and development of the print head of a construction 3D printer for the construction of military construction projects

Goal of the project:

The purpose of the work is the adaptation of construction machinery to work as a construction 3D printer and the design and development of a print head installed on it for the construction of military construction facilities.

Relevance of the project:

Additive manufacturing is making its way into many industries. Including in the field of military development. In particular, the U.S. Marine Corps has successfully tested this technology by building military barracks and hangars using a construction 3D printer. As a result, additive manufacturing has been shown to reduce the amount of manpower, time, and finances required for construction. Icon, the company that implemented this, uses a gantry robot as a construction 3D printer and the Contour Crafting method as a 3D printing method. Today's commercialized projects, including Icon, use gantry, delta, polar and serial robots as the basis for 3D printers, but none of them are suitable for use in the field, which is considered a corrosive environment, and require a specially prepared construction site and building foundation. Hence, it is not very suitable for military use. According to the concept presented in the project, construction equipment designed to work in an aggressive environment, in particular, the excavator is adapted to work as a construction 3D printer and a special print head is designed, which is printed using an improved monolithic method. The excavator digs a pit with its buckets, levels the construction site, then changes the bucket to a print head, first pours the foundation, then presses the walls. Concrete and rebar are transported along the boom of the excavator and delivered to the print head. By pressing the ceiling on a flat surface on a construction site, a hook is installed instead of a print head, the ceiling is raised and installed above the walls. Thus, it is possible to build a military facility with the help of one technique.
